How two-factor authentication works

An authenticator app on your phone generates short-lived login codes. Together with your password, they provide two-factor authentication.

A woman with a friendly smile connects her authenticator app to Finavita.
01 · Set up

I connect my app.

After signing in, I open “Security”. There I scan the QR code with my authenticator app and confirm the code.

The woman smiles as she confirms her sign-in with a code from her app.
02 · Sign in

I confirm it’s me.

Along with my password, I enter the current six-digit code from the app.

The woman looks content as she safely stores her recovery codes.
03 · Prepare

I have a plan B.

I keep my recovery codes safe – separate from my phone.

Phone gone? Your recovery code helps.

With your password and an unused recovery code, you can sign in without your authenticator app.

  • A sign-in code that has already been used is not accepted again.
  • After too many incorrect codes, further attempts are limited.
What do I need?

An authenticator app on your phone. It generates short-lived codes that you enter along with your password. A regular camera app alone is not enough. Start setup after signing in, in the “Security” section. Before important changes, you confirm your password.
